Prepare Ahead and Store Kotlet

One or two days in advance, the potatoes can be boiled, mashed, and kept in the refrigerated in an airtight container.

It is not advisable to combine all the ingredients in advance since the mashed potatoes and ground beef absorb the eggs completely, resulting in a highly thick mass that affects the texture of the kotlets and makes it more difficult to shape the patties.

The cooked kotlets can be kept in the refrigerator for approximately a week once they have completely cooled, but they will go bad much sooner!

Place them in an airtight container. Additionally, if kept in freezer-safe plastic bags or containers, kotlets freeze extremely well.

If you microwave cold-cooked kotlets for a minute or two, they can be warmed up easily, but they won’t get crispy.

The ideal method to reheat kotlets and bring back their crispy exterior is to bake them for around ten minutes at 300°F (150°C) in your full-size oven or toaster oven.

If the kotlets have been frozen, just extend the heating period to around 15 minutes; there’s no need to thaw them. When you notice little oil bubbles emerging on the surface, you know they’re ready.

The Kotlet History

There is a family of pan-fried patties (vegetarian and meat-based), some of which have been around for a very long time, within Persian cuisine.

Since potatoes were not brought to Iran until some point in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, kotlets are relatively recent additions to this family.

Actually, the term “kotlet” in Persian is a loanword from the French word “côtelette,” which entered the language soon after European explorers started visiting Iran in great detail in the early 19th century.

It is one of the most well-liked dishes even though it is not very old. Some members of the Iranian diaspora groups in North America refer to kotlets as the “Persian healthy hamburger” because the meat makes up less than half of the components by weight.
